Forming Connections Around the Ring of Fire

As an ambassador representing TAS in communicating with fellow Middle School scientists ( and possibly other scientists as well)  from around the world about earthquakes,  it is very important that you be courteous at all times.  You should also  learn all you can about a topic yourself, before asking for information from foreign colleagues.

In consideration of the time differences, and technological differences between international schools it is recommended that communications for this project be conducted by email.  Brief notes could also be exchanged between students instantaneously using an ICQ account, but this would have to be arranged by the individuals concerned.

In your first message to a teammate in another school make sure you:

1.  Introduce yourself by sharing a little about your likes and dislikes, family information, what Taiwan is like, and some interesting things about your school or classes.

2.  Introduce your teammates.

3.  Give a summary of your understanding of this project and the kinds of information you would like to discuss and exchange.

4.  Check to make sure you are both using the same Web page making program.

5.  Offer to freely share any information that would help their classmates, as well as your project.

6. Provide your foreign teammate with your email address, and possibly your mailing address, FAX number, or another alternative way to communicate in case there is a problem with the connection.

(If you have a "yahoo" or "hotmail" account you can access it at school only to communicate information regarding this project, otherwise you will have to use your personal server at home.)
