There's nothing like reading a great missionary biography. Some of my favorites are the Trailblazers series by Dave and Neta Jackson, Uncle Cam (the story of the founder of Wycliffe Bible Translators), Peace Child by Don Richardson, and We Signed Away Our Lives by Kari Torjesten Malcolm. Explore additional biographies at Wholesome Words. Urbana has a list of 21 Missionaries You Should Know along with basic information about many of them, discussion questions, a nd additional resources. In addition, their blog contains a category of Missions Stories, which provides plenty of reading material on present day missionaries as well.
While reading about missionaries can be really exciting, it is important to read about missions in general as well. Urbana lists 10 Books on Missions Everyone Should Read. The Missiology category of their blog is also a wealth of information.
As you research different missions organizations, look at their blogs to be informed about the work they do. They may recommend specific missions books you can add to your reading list.
